"Restored full confidence to jump and work out without leaking."
Pelvic floor issues don’t only affect adults. Teens — especially young female athletes — experience real, treatable symptoms that are often dismissed or ignored. Specialized one-on-one care is available for teenagers across Long Island.
Your symptoms are real — and they are treatable
Too many teens are told that bladder leakage during sports, pelvic pain, or bowel issues are just something to push through. They are not. These are signs that the pelvic floor needs attention — and the earlier they are addressed, the better the outcome. Whether you are a parent researching options for your child or a teen looking for answers yourself, you are in the right place.
Who we help
High-intensity sports like gymnastics, dance, CrossFit, running, and team sports place significant demand on the pelvic floor. Leakage, pelvic pressure, or pain during activity is common in teen athletes — but it is not normal, and it is not something to train through. We evaluate the core and pelvic floor and address the root cause so teens can keep doing what they love.
Bladder leakage or a sudden strong urge to urinate can be embarrassing and isolating for a teenager. It often goes unreported because teens assume nothing can be done. Pelvic floor PT is highly effective for these issues and most teens see significant improvement quickly. We offer specialized support for female athletes who experience frequent UTIs and associated pain, providing effective pelvic floor strategies to help manage and prevent these issues
Pelvic pain in teenagers — including pain with menstruation, pain with activity, or unexplained pelvic pressure — can have a significant impact on daily life, school, and sports. We take these symptoms seriously and work to identify and treat the source.
While more common in pregnancy, diastasis recti can also affect teenagers — particularly those involved in heavy lifting or high-intensity training. Left unaddressed it can lead to back pain, core weakness, and pelvic floor dysfunction over time.
Poor posture, weak core muscles, and pelvic misalignment are increasingly common in teens and often contribute to back pain, hip pain, and pelvic floor issues. We assess movement patterns and build a program to correct them.
The physical changes that come with puberty can affect posture, core strength, and pelvic floor function in ways teens and parents rarely expect. Education and early intervention during this time can prevent long-term issues from developing.
A note for parents
We understand that bringing your teenager to a pelvic floor physical therapist can feel unfamiliar. Every session at Lotus Physical Therapy is private, one-on-one, and conducted with full respect for your teenager’s comfort and dignity. We will always explain what we are doing and why, and we will never proceed without consent. Many parents sit in on initial evaluations — that is completely welcome.
